DVM
Julie Sanders
Dr. Sanders received her undergraduate degree in biology and chemistry from Western Maryland College (now known as McDaniel College) and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) at Virginia Tech.
She has extensive experience in emergency medicine and general practice. Her medical interests include emergency and urgent care, soft tissue surgery, dentistry, nutrition, behavior, and the management of chronic illness.
Dr. Sanders has a strong commitment to volunteer service. Her family raised German Shepherds as guide dogs for the blind with the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, and she was an avid volunteer with Alley Cat Allies and Greyhound Welfare prior to veterinary school. She has also provided free surgical services to Homeward Bound in Blackwood, NJ. Currently, she is an active volunteer with the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association (NJVMA). She also remains engaged with her alma mater, VMCVM, as both a member of the Alumni Board of Directors and a student mentor.
Dr. Sanders worked at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital Hillsborough from 2011 to 2013 and is delighted to rejoin our Mount Laurel location. She has been with Heart + Paw since 2021, leading and supporting 10 veterinary hospitals as a Director of Operations. Her passion for mentorship and for coaching fellow veterinarians in surgical and dentistry skills led her to pursue ownership as a Joint Venture Partner Doctor with Heart + Paw and to return to full-time general practice.
When not at work, Dr. Sanders enjoys traveling and riding motorcycles with her husband, Jason, and their son, Joseph. After nearly 20 years of cohabitating with rescue Dobermans, she found her soul dog—Artemis, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Dr. Sanders has also developed an enthusiasm for felines thanks to her cat-in-law, Lo-Mein.
